bird blood parasites

Professional Summary

I am an interdisciplinary bioinformatician with experience developing, managing, funding, and publishing various genomic research projects. I have experience analyzing reduced-representation and full genomic sequences, using a broad approach to incorporate many types of data, resulting in 2 published and 2 accepted first-author publications. I am an excellent communicator and experienced manager of students, volunteers, and other researchers.

My evolutionary background gives me unique insight into how disease and parasites evolve with their hosts in real populations. My current research focuses on population genetics of birds and their parasites using a genomic approach, while incorporating diverse datasets such as phenotypic and environmental traits. I love asking big questions about how organisms and their parasites and diseases evolve together.

Public Outreach

I am committed to promoting interest in science through public outreach events in the community. I am passionate about sharing my career and experience with students through direct mentorship, serving on a regional Girl Scouts STEM advisory council, and giving guest lectures in classrooms of all levels. I regularly provide tours of our research facilities and participate in outreach events.

In addition to research-related outreach, I am a volunteer transport monitor for the Pointer Rescue Organization on my weekends. I organize large groups of drivers to help dogs get to their new homes across the country.
